Data Analyst

City of Darwin is seeking an experienced Data Analyst to lead enterprise-wide analytics capability across all council operations. This role is critical in enabling evidence-based decision-making, improving service delivery, and shaping the City of Darwin's data strategy for the future.

About You

You are a highly skilled data professional who can transform complex datasets into actionable insights. You thrive on collaboration, communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences, and champion innovation through data.

This position is classified as Level 6 under our Enterprise Agreement and offers a base salary of $95,527.33 per year plus 12% superannuation. For further information regarding this position, please contact Keith Whannell on (08) 8930 0810.

About the Role

Reporting to the Manager Digital Innovation, you will design and deliver advanced analytics solutions that support strategic and operational decision-making across all council services. You will lead best practice in data governance, optimise data pipelines, and foster a strong data-driven culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with stakeholders across all departments to identify opportunities for data-driven improvements and innovation.
  • Design and implement advanced analytics solutions, including predictive modelling and trend analysis.
  • Develop and maintain enterprise dashboards and reports using Power BI or similar tools.
  • Ensure data integrity, governance, security, and compliance across systems and sources.
  • Manage and optimise data pipelines and integrations for scalable analytics.
  • Lead data literacy initiatives through training, guidance, and mentoring.
  • Contribute to council-wide data policies, standards, and governance frameworks.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of analytics initiatives and recommend enhancements.
  • Stay informed on emerging trends in data science, AI, and other technologies.
  • Support Smart City technology initiatives as required

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field; or
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in data analytics or business intelligence.
  • Strong experience with Power BI or similar visualisation tools.
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL for data analysis and automation.
  • Knowledge of data governance, quality, and compliance best practices.
  • Experience with cloud-based data platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP) desirable.
  • Current National Criminal History Check.
  • Valid C Class Driver Licence.
