Casual Rangers - Public Spaces (weekend work)

About the Opportunity
Our Rangers provide high level customer service by proactively promoting all areas of Regulatory Services to the community by responding to enquiries regarding Council's By-Laws and other applicable legislation.

To be successful in this role you will be required to provide effective and timely responses to public enquiries and complaints regarding activities in public places, parking, animal management, untidy allotments, abandoned vehicles, and other related legislative non-compliance matters.

You will be required to undertake compliance and enforcement activities relating to the City of Darwin's By-laws, Policies, Strategies, and Plans, including conducting public place patrols, engaging with vulnerable, homeless and first nation people. You may be required to conduct investigations, collect evidence, statements, interviews, inspections, warrants, seizures, issuing warnings, infringements, and preparing prosecution briefs.

As this position is a front facing to our customers maintain good relationships with the community by communicating legislative requirements calmly, clearly, and confidently, combined with practical listening skills.

This role will require the successful applicant to maintain accurate records, assist in collating and analysing data, and prepare draft reports as required.

About you
You will have sound interpersonal skills, both verbal and written to assist with any situations which may require negotiations or problem solving. Have demonstrated experience in using discretion and judgement to resolve any regulatory issues, particularly when dealing with people from culturally diverse population groups.

To be considered, you must have the following:

  • Previous experience in a similar position particularly with dealing with public complaints, anti-social behaviour, vulnerable, homeless and first nation peoples.
  • Certificate in Local Government or equivalent qualification and / or demonstrated experience.
  • National Police Records Check.
  • Possession of a Class C Drivers Licence.
  • Possession Working with Children's Clearance.
  • Available to work on Saturday and Sunday's.

This position is only for weekend (Saturday & Sunday) casual employment consisting of 6 hour shifts. Times will vary, but essentially between the hours of 7.00am and 6.00pm. We offer a competitive casual hourly rate of $41.17 to $44.86 (based on experience), plus uniform and PPE. Some occasional additional hours maybe available.
