About the Opportunity:
The role focuses on leadership, management, and financial oversight within a local government setting. Key responsibilities include fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement, providing expert advice to senior leadership on statutory compliance, and overseeing financial monitoring and reporting.
The position involves taking a leadership role, ensuring financial strategies align with broader goals, and addressing potential risks and opportunities in both internal and external environments. In addition, the role oversees systems to ensure the revenue, rates and accounts payable systems are efficient and effective. The role also includes active participation in Council meetings, maintaining effective relationships with community groups, ensuring customer satisfaction, and promoting the "Customer First" strategy.
In terms of financial management, the role involves overseeing the revenue and payables teams, ensuring the timely processing of rates and debtor transactions, and providing insights for budget forecasting and scenario modelling. The position also ensures compliance with relevant legislation, including tax regulations, the Local Government Act with a primary focus on rating legislation, and accounting standards.
This includes regular audits, reconciliations, and the preparation of key financial documents, such as aged debtors and creditors reports. Additionally, the role ensures the integrity of financial systems related to revenue and payables, reviewing processes and implementing controls to improve efficiency and transparency across the organisation.

- Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on prioritising tasks, delegating effectively, and meeting deadlines.
- High level of accountability and business acumen, with the capacity to interpret and apply legislation and accounting standards. The ability to work with large data sets, analyse, and reconcile data is also crucial.
- Communication skills are essential, including the ability to engage effectively in written, verbal, and administrative contexts, as well as strong negotiation and consultation abilities.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with employees and across multiple teams, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to quickly adapt to internal software systems.
