About the Opportunity:

We currently require a temporary, full-time Planning Officer to work in the Planning and Place team, starting immediately. The position provides project, planning and administrative support to ensure effective development assessment and team operations. The team is one part of the broader Place and Economic Development program area. This role will be working at the Civic Centre.

Typical duties:

Working at the Civic Centre, the position will undertake duties such as, but not limited to:

  • Processing of various planning proposals and other planning matters, including researching, assessing and preparing correspondence for development, commercial outdoor activities, place names applications, and issuing sign permits under delegated authority.
  • Monitor and assist customers to ensure compliance with the conditions set for development, signs code, commercial outdoor activities and access applications.
  • Maintain and manage databases including sign permits and development parking shortfalls.
  • Ensure satisfactory delivery of identified projects and initiatives for Place and Economic Development, including projects that sit within the Movement Strategy and Place and Liveability Plan.
  • Prepare routine correspondence, Council reports, documents, agendas and minutes and undertake research with great attention to detail as and when required.
  • Assist with the review and development of procedures to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Update Council policy and guidelines and prepare reports to Council and Senior Leadership.

Position Pre-Requisites:

Applicants must address the following pre-requisites as they relate to the position's typical duties:

  • Diploma in Urban Planning or equivalent qualification and/or experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years' experience in a similar role.
  • Class C Driver's License.
