Are you a finance professional with strong analytical skills looking to play a pivotal role in a growing capital city's revenue function?

City of Darwin is seeking a Revenue Accountant to join our Finance team within the Corporate Services Hub. This is a specialist role providing high-level advice on rates and revenue forecasting, supporting Council's budgetary position, and contributing to the continuous improvement of our revenue & debt management function.

This role suits an experienced finance professional who enjoys technical analysis, forecasting and modelling, and providing sound advice to a range of internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Liaise with the public and relevant stakeholders including lawyers, conveyancers, debt collectors and government departments on matters relating to rates and debtor accounts.
• Provide high-level advice on all aspects of rates and revenue forecasts, which is integral to Council's budgetary position.
• Develop revenue forecasting models to support the formulation of forward revenue estimates.
• Provide subject matter expertise to the Revenue team, including on revenue policy and forecasting.
• Undertake analysis of revenue options available to Local Government, including relevant research and quantitative modelling of revenue potential.
• Prepare debtor reporting and high-level analysis to support management oversight and coordinate the review of Council's Debtor Management policies and procedures.
• Lead continuous improvement of Corporate Finance Systems, including Civica/Authority (ERP) and reporting systems.
• Liaise with Council's auditors and maintain internal controls processes.

About You

You are an experienced finance professional with sound judgement and the ability to interpret legislation, regulations and policy to provide clear, accurate advice on complex issues. You bring strong analytical and technology skills, the confidence to work autonomously, and a collaborative approach to supporting the wider Finance team.

Position Prerequisites

• Tertiary qualification in Economics, Commerce or a related field
• Minimum five (5) years' experience in a similar finance-related position
• Current C Class Driver's Licence
• National Police Records Check Clearance

Essential Experience, Skills and Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to interpret legislation, regulations, policies and procedures
• Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team with strong customer service values
• Ability to work autonomously and exercise a high degree of initiative and judgement
• Well-developed written and oral communication skills
• Sound technology literacy, including Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word
• Proven ability to analyse complex issues independently and logically, formulating solutions, strategies or improvements

Desirable

• Relevant experience in a Local Government organisation, preferably in Rates and Revenue
• Membership of a professional body such as CPA Australia or Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand
