Are you looking for a role where you can be out in the community, solve problems, and make a visible difference across Darwin?

City of Darwin is seeking a Ranger to join our Regulatory Services team. This is a hands-on role that supports community safety, public amenity and compliance across the municipality. Rangers work across a broad range of matters including parking, animal management, unsafe properties and public places.

This role is suited to someone who enjoys variety, communicates well and can balance education, discretion and enforcement when responding to community concerns.

As a Ranger, you will spend your time in the field conducting patrols, responding to complaints, engaging with the public and taking appropriate enforcement action under City of Darwin By-Laws, the Australian Road Rules and other relevant legislation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to community enquiries, requests and complaints relating to parking, animals, public safety and By-Law matters.
  • Conduct proactive patrols across public places, roads, reserves and other areas within the municipality.
  • Promote compliance through education, engagement and, where required, enforcement action.
  • Support animal education activities and other community safety programs.
  • Undertake regulatory action in accordance with relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
  • Undertake inspections, investigations and evidence collection, including statements, interviews, warrants, seizures and preparation of documentation.

About You

You are confident, approachable and community focused, with the ability to communicate clearly, remain calm under pressure, and make fair and consistent decisions. This role will suit someone who enjoys working outdoors, being part of a team, and providing an important service to the Darwin community. You are organised, reliable and comfortable managing competing priorities throughout the day. You will bring sound judgement, strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to workplace health and safety, professional conduct and continuous learning. Most importantly, you understand that good compliance work is not only about enforcement. It is about helping people understand their responsibilities, improving community outcomes, and representing City of Darwin with professionalism and integrity.

Position Prerequisites:

  • Possession of a Class C Drivers Licence.
  • National Police Records Check.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • A minimum of 2-years' experience working in a front-line service delivery role, or
  • Certificate IV Government Investigations.

Why Join Us?

In Regulatory Services, we value people who work together, take pride in their role, and are committed to providing quality services to the community. You will be joining a busy and supportive team where collaboration, practical problem solving and a willingness to learn are important.

Your hard work will be rewarded with a competitive remuneration package and generous leave entitlements. This position at level 3 has a base salary of $77,294.05 to $82,996.36, per annum plus superannuation.

If you do not meet the requirement of having 2 years' experience working in a frontline service delivery role, you may be eligible to apply for the position at a level 2 which has a base salary of $70,954.04 to $75,527.24, per annum plus superannuation.

This is a role with opportunities to work across different shifts and operational activities, including weekend work, on-call duties and overtime where required. These arrangements support our response to community needs, events and after-hours matters across the municipality. Additional overtime and on-call allowances may apply in accordance with City of Darwin's employment conditions.
