City of Darwin is seeking a Senior Ranger to join our Regulatory Services team. This is an important role that supports community safety, public amenity and compliance outcomes across the municipality. Senior Rangers work across complex regulatory matters including investigations, enforcement activities, public place management, animal management and community engagement.
This role is suited to an experienced Ranger or hands on regulator who enjoys variety, problem solving and supporting others to achieve consistent and fair outcomes. You will provide guidance, mentoring and advice to Rangers while managing complex enquiries, investigations and compliance matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide advice and guidance on the interpretation and application of legislation, City of Darwin By-Laws, policies and procedures.
- Respond to complex community enquiries, requests and complaints relating to public places, illegal camping, animal management, permits and other regulatory matters.
- Promote compliance through education, engagement and, where required, enforcement action.
- Undertake complex investigations and evidence collection, including statements, interviews, inspections, warrants, seizures and preparation of documentation.
- Support Rangers through mentoring, coaching, training and the sharing of knowledge to build capability and consistency across the team.
- Work collaboratively with internal teams, stakeholders and government agencies to deliver effective regulatory outcomes.
- Prepare briefs of evidence for prosecution, liaise with legal representatives and attend court or provide evidence as required.

You are an experienced regulatory professional who enjoys solving problems, supporting others and delivering positive outcomes for the community. You have the confidence to manage complex matters, provide sound advice and make fair, consistent decisions in a regulatory environment.
This role will suit someone who enjoys being out in the community while also supporting the development and capability of others. You are approachable, adaptable and able to build positive working relationships with team members, stakeholders and members of the public.
You will bring strong communication skills, sound judgement and the ability to interpret legislation, By-Laws, policies and procedures. You are committed to workplace health and safety, professional conduct and continuous learning.
Most importantly, you understand that good compliance work is not only about enforcement. It is about education, engagement, supporting the community to understand their responsibilities, and representing City of Darwin with professionalism and integrity.
Position Prerequisites:
- Possession of a Class C Drivers Licence.
- National Police Records Check.
- Working with Children Clearance or ability to obtain.
- Certificate IV in Government Investigations or ability to obtain within 6 months.
- Minimum three (3) years regulatory services experience.

Your hard work will be rewarded with a competitive remuneration package and generous leave entitlements. This position at level 4 has a base salary of $81,784.36 to $86,631.26 per annum plus superannuation.
This is a role with opportunities to work across different operational activities, including weekend work, on-call duties and overtime where required. These arrangements support our response to community needs, events and after-hours matters across the municipality. Additional overtime and on-call allowances may apply in accordance with City of Darwin's employment conditions.
